Today I was running on six hours of sleep but I did not have a headache so the session went really well since Mrs. Bout came to the Wethersfield Senior Center. Today was so great today because I experienced something in life that I had never experienced before, but I will get to that towards the end of this entry. So, I think today was the third time this guy has come to me. This is the one and only client I was consistently seen grow in using technology—he is my best client. Plus, he has a great sense of humor so our sessions are very fun and full of puns and jokes. Today he had a decent amount of questions revolving around saving web pages to desktop, bookmarking web pages, and creating folders and where to place them and etc. We got through all that but, lately I have come into a habit of showing my clients some tips and tricks about technology devices that they would not know otherwise. They have greatly enjoyed them. Today, I taught this guy about google images and oh my god, that was hilarious because they way these senior citizens react to like things they would never expect is really funny. The first thing he did was google himself and he was so elated about it until he did not find any pictures of him on google images. I then had to explain to him why google images did not contain any pictures of him. We kept going for about fifteen minutes overtime and well, we found his thesis he wrote in 1978…. He was mind blown and he stated, “SO YOU ARE TELLING ME SOMEONE WENT THREE LEVELS UNDERGROUND AND TOOK OUT MY EUROPEAN HISTORY THESIS SCANNED IT AND PUT IT ON THE INTERNET????” I then told him yes and how it happened (laughing). Anyways, this is the new experienced part. Towards the end of the session he tried giving my twenty dollars. I immediately said no and told him that is not what I am here for; “I am here to help you for free, I don’t do it for the money or anything.” He then told me he talked to my supervisor about it and I still did not take the money. Then, he called my supervisor over and she said it was between me and him. I still insisted on not taking the money. Then, he said, “if you don’t take the money I will be insulted.” I did not know what to do after that so I took the money… Like he really wanted to give me the money from the bottom of his heart since he did not just offer it once and left it at that—he kept asking so I had no choice.
