Same senior citizen came in today as the previous session and I have never actually enjoyed teaching someone this much hahaha. So, the best part was towards the end when we had free time and I was showing her around about thing she probably had never seen and I showed her emojis. The power of emojis is unreal. She continuously kept saying, “oh gosh darn me, this is unreal [laughing and smiling continuously].” I just kept showing her more and more amazing stuff then since it was so entertaining. One thing I never do is talk about the disabilities some of these senior citizens have since I go there to teach them and just make their lives better. They might have disabilities, but they are still amazing and by far the kindest people I have ever encountered in my life. Anyways, it is weird but I continuously kept covering the topics these senior citizens wanted to ahead of time. Like I never actually ever looked at the questions she had for me but I just have been sort of finally understanding what these seniors want and I can predict their next question without asking them anything. There is this certain order of questions most of them follow: they will ask me to show them the basics first such as calling or texting, then emailing. Basically, forms of communication first then they start asking about their personal interests—some ask about games, some ask about reading apps, some about music and Bluetooth, and some even ask about social media. So, this specific senior seemed interested in google and the videos and images you could access so I decided to introduce her to YouTube. She was mind blown; it was as if she had never seen anything more fascinating in life. Little things like these are what motivate me to keep doing capstone and putting my most forth effort in helping these people that want to learn. Anyhow, she took the tablet while I was in the middle of showing her around YouTube and started just playing around with it herself. I got so happy at that sight because the one thing I tell every client of mine is: “the only way to learn is to do it yourself and just explore around and not be afraid.” It was like the most enthusiasm I have ever seen more enthusiasm out of a senior citizen towards technology to be honest. Went home a happy camper! Cannot believe I just said that LOL.
